Need Help Temporarily?

While the majority of our clients are seniors that need in home care assistance, we also assist adults of all ages recovering from a surgery by providing postoperative home care. We can coordinate with your local surgery center in assisting you for the crucial period of 24-48 hours following a procedure. Even though its good to ask for help from loved ones, we can fill in the gaps. Our short-term recovery services are an outstanding solution that allows adults to recover following a surgery, an illness, or an accident- including Worker’s Comp care. Our services can mean a shorter stay in a rehabilitation facility, and it’s proven that people rebound more quickly in the comfort of their own home.

Sometimes a little extra help can make a significant difference in how soon patients can return home, and Extended Family Home Care is ready to assist with protective oversight during your recovery.  From assistance with ambulation, dressing, personal care, medication reminders, and transportation to medical appointments, we can help. We can lend assistance with grocery shopping, meal preparation, running errands, pet care, cleaning, and laundry.

How We Help

We admitted a woman who had ankle surgery and wanted to stay at home without the help of her family members. Her physical therapist comes to help with her physical recovery while we help her around the house with with cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. Even though her sister visits daily, she doesn’t want to ask for rides around town. We provide transportation to her followup Dr. appt.’s, grocery shopping and showering.

What Surgeries Might Require Help

Healthline has a good piece on what you should do prior to surgery so you know what you’ll need afterward. Their tip is to ask as many questions as possible, like:

  • How long will I be expected to remain in the hospital?
  • Will I need any special supplies or medications when I go home?
  • What side effects can I expect?
  • What things should I avoid?
  • Will I require a caregiver or physical therapist?
  • When can I resume normal activity?

The answers to these questions will help you make the appropriate accommodations. Keep emergency numbers handy and arrange to have someone help you, if necessary. There are a variety of surgeries that might lead you to seek assistance. We can help in the life altering case of a heart bypass or a simple cosmetic surgery. In every situation, our caregivers make sure their time is used to make your recovery as easy as possible. Whether you need us daily around the clock or a visit once a week, we can be there for you.
